Right. So I'm starting this thread upon following twitter discussions re: a potential GSN-type organisation among bloggers. Gentlemen & ladies, the floor is yours.

Okay, I'll say this much to start off. The last few months have felt bad, and I think that the recent losses have been a natural response to an increasingly fractious environment over the last few months. As such, I would strongly suggest that any new network should be as much about moral support as anything else. I'll leave the floor to you guys, and return to the thread shortly.

Oh, I forgot that you are an admin on here, Rich. With great power comes great responsibility, and all that.

Also, is Jason aware he's blocked me on Twitter yet? (off to a good start).

Well, I followed a bit of the twitter convo but didn't catch it all but I gathered this was a proposal to combine independent blog forces like the X-Men but still retain some level of independence & autonomy, correct?
The principal issue seemed to be of general organisation as well as who/what would have the time to herd the cats, right?

Who made Whittall an admin? A disgrace, etc...

And I have now seen that. I didn't even know I could block people. Many apologies Richard--I had wondered why you had been quiet of late on my timeline.

Do we, Ian, need to delve in and soul-search as to why things have been fractious in recent months?

If a network is about moral support, nothing need change where sites and content are concerned. I've thought since the GSN and, more so, Les Rosbifs situation that bloggers need to work more closely together to protect their interests.
But there is scope to make *some* money beyond a bit of Google Ads. But this would need a lot more organising and coherence. I've come across a few of these, and it does work but it does mean each site might have to make a few compromises.
I don't think bloggers realise the potential, but I work on the other side on my job - recently I happily paid $100 to place a post on a site, and there are plenty other ways to make money besides that.
