We are currently four fifths of the way through a week looking at clubs experiencing financial difficulties. It's been very rewarding seeing keen interest build up in the posts but, as most of you will know, the research involved can be a mammoth undertaking.
We have relied on fans in the know this week but have written our own overviews in the past. Given the outright excellence of posts of this ilk on sites such as The Swiss Ramble and Two Hundred Percent, does anyone have tips on the best sources of information to use when researching a post? i.e company accounts etc? Failsafe sources of accurate information would be appreciated.

Depends what you want to know Robert. For analysis: John Beech is pretty good but very busy - and is a Pompey fan. footballmanagement.wordpress.com/I found Jon Samuels book The Beautiful Game is Over www.amazon.co.uk/Beautiful-Game-Over-Globalisation-Football/dp/1846241642 really helpful in outlining ownership models. Supporter Direct website is best - I guess you will have seen their briefing papers: www.supporters-direct.org/pages/?p=8321 and they will answer specific questions by email - but not always in a hurry. Good data on fan owned clubs available to anyone who asks. Probably if you ring James Mathie he will point you in the right direction And it being Pompey I have a number of sources on money laundering ;-) This is a good report: www.fatf-gafi.org/document/20/0,3746,en_32250379_32237202_43216660_1_1_1_1,00.html I also know a guy with did his masters dissertation on corruption in football who might be able to help on specifics and a friend who works in finance that I use for 'idiots explanations' of various financial terms and devices. For raw data Companies House is first step.

Coming to this thread late I know, but I'd add a couple of other suggestions :
David Conn at the Guardian is a god of football finance, so search for his columns and every one is gold.
Nick Harris at the Mail on Sunday is also good too - done some great research on Blackburn
And finally search #footballfinance on Twitter and there are lots of great links there.
