Although it's highly unlikely my fellow blogger Lloyd and I will look to make money out of our site, it has crossed our mind of course.
For those of you who do run advertising, I presume you have to register as a business, file accounts and pay tax on earnings derived from this? If so, any step by step tips on doing things by the book would be most welcome.

To be honest Lanterne, there's nowhere near enough cash in it to warrant all that paperwork (though I'm in the USA now, and can't remember the rules back home). Most ad companies will pay via PayPal, and it'll be pennies.

If someone wanted so sponsor a section on Roker Report, that would be fine. Not having adverts or click-throughs though. When was the last time you clicked on a banner advert through choice? I don't think I've ever done it.

It's a fair point RR. But you have to remember that we are, alarmingly, among the more internet-savvy of the people out there. And internet advertising does work (believe me, it is my job to make it work!!) So a canny ad here and there can be productive. But you are never going to make enough to fund the lifestyle you dream of from writing a tinpot football blog, sorry. Unless you dream of buying a solitary block of lego.

It does work, even if only to promote awareness of a product. But for the likes of ourselves, we aren't likely to get a megabucks advertising deal.
I do of course dream of giving up the day job to do this fulltime, but its just a labour of love for now, and can't see it changing.

Thanks for the feedback fellas. This is what I expected. There are so many good sites out there that don't advertise and which don't put up a paywall that making money is probably futile.
